Most people look for the following products when looking for an effective hand treatment:

  • Shea Butter Hand Cream
  • Emu Oil Hand Cream
  • Beeswax Hand Cream
  • Lanolin Hand Cream
  • Collagen Hand Cream
  • Milk Hand Cream

Well, I got good news, my hand balm contains all these wonderful ingredients plus a lot more and is completely      free of fragrance, parabens, and alcohol:

  1. Emu Oil: Emu oil fatty acid composition mimic those found in the top layer of  skin. It is known to be an anti inflammatory oil and it naturally helps to restore and soothe dry, damaged, sensitive skin. Emu Oil is unsurpassed for its moisturizing properties as it hydrates and helps to hold moisture and plumps up skin’s underlying layer and thus reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Emu oil hand moisturizer works like a charm for dry and scaly hands. The consensus is that emu oil is so similar to what is in our skin that our skin cannot tell the difference. Studies have proven that emu oil has transdermal ability (it can pass through all layers of skin) and this explains why damaged, dry, and malnourished skin responds so fast to emu oil. Emu oil penetrates deep into the dermis and acts like a secondary food supply to skin cells that may be lacking in nutrients, damaged or dying. Emu oil hand cream or balm is very effective for dry & cracked hands and cuticles. A good study showing efficacy of Emu oil in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis:
  2. Mink Oil: I use a very reputable mink oil supplier that provides me with 100% pure, refined, and very high grade, fine oil. This mink oil comes from farm raised minks, right here in USA, for the fur industry. Mink's meat is used by the pet food industry and its oil by skincare & fine leather products' manufacturers. I use mink oil in my hand balm as there is simply NO replacement for this amazing oil when it comes to skincare. Mink oil promotes healing and soothes, softens, and conditions the skin. Mink oil's skin absorption property is among the finest of any known natural oils. It is an excellent oil for skin rejuvenation and repair, one of the best to deeply moisturize dry and cracked skin and leave it soft and supple. The use of mink oil to soften skin goes back to the days of fur trappers; they noticed that the fatty layer of tissue under the minks' fur helped to protect and soften their work-roughened and cold-chapped hands. Mink oil is one of the best oils to promote younger looking, flawlessly pretty hands. Minks are known by scientists to be the only animal in the world exempt from suffering any kind of skin diseases. They possess the remarkable ability to regenerate and recover from damaged skin. This astonishing ability is related to the unique fatty acids found within the fatty layer under their skin. Mink oil contains roughly 17% palmitoleic acid, which is very beneficial to our skin. Mink oil works wonderfully for dry & cracked hands and cuticles. No luxury, anti aging, anti wrinkle cream or balm for hands, nails & cuticles, should be without it!
  3. Ceramide 3: Elizabeth Arden made ceramides well known in skincare when they introduced their beauty capsules few years ago. Ceramide 3 helps to improve epidermal integrity while providing protection from photo damage, stress, surfactants, and low humidity conditions. Ceramide 3 also reinforces and protects the skin from trans‐epidermal water loss (TEWL). Aging and environmental factors cause the skin's natural ceramides to be compromised and depleted, resulting in loss of moisture, which in turn leads to dry, crepey skin. This decrease in the ceramides level also allows irritants to easily enter the skin that can cause inflammation, which can further lead to dry, cracked, and irritated skin. Ceramide hand cream or balm helps to maintain healthy levels of ceramides in the skin leading to adequate hydration and to reinforce the skin's protective barrier; this leads to younger looking, beautiful hands, nails, and cuticles. Ceramide 3 is a must have ingredient in any luxury, anti aging, anti wrinkle hand balm or cream
  4. Shea Butter: Shea Butter is an emollient and it nourishes the skin with Vitamins A, K, E and F. It is a very rich source of antioxidants, including quercetin, gallocatechin, epicatechin gallate, epigallocatechin, epigallocatechin gallate, and gallocatechin gallate. One can never go wrong with a Shea Butter Hand Cream or balm and is particularly helpful for sun damaged skin that is losing its youthful elasticity . It is known for its moisturizing and emollient properties and it helps to prevent premature wrinkles and lines; has also been claimed to have anti-inflammatory properties. Shea butter hand cream guards skin against cold, dry, and windy conditions. Rich in vitamins and fatty acids, Shea Butter penetrates deeply into the epidermis and leaves a smooth, satiny finish. Shea butter's naturally occurring cinnamic acid provides UV protection for the skin. (Please not that this is not a replacement for a sun block/spf). In short, shea butter beautifies hands, nails, and cuticles. L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is very famous, however the first ingredient in it is water, while the first ingredient in my creamy balm is shea butter and it contains zero water! Please review this study to learn more about the anti-inflammatory and chemopreventive properties of shea butter: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20484832
  5. Beeswax: When applied to the skin, beeswax forms a protective barrier that helps protect it from environmental assaults, while also holding in moisture and reducing dryness. Beeswax Hand Cream or balm helps dry skin substantially and is an important functional ingredient in many natural hand creams and balms.. Some ingredients “attract” water, and beeswax is one of them. When you apply a skincare product with beeswax in it, your skin attracts water molecules, helping to keep itself hydrated and well moisturized for a long periods of time. A good source of vitamin A, beeswax also helps support cell turnover and reconstruction. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which helps to soothe dry, irritated skin upon application and also acts as anti aging in the long run. Beeswax hand cream or balm helps to heal, protect, and prevent dry and cracked hands, nails, and cuticles. .
  6. Tamanu Oil: is known as being a cure-all for almost every skin ailment one can think of, from acne to eczema to psoriasis. It is reputed to have wondrous wound-healing and skin regeneration properties and thus gives life to dry, chapped, and wrinkled skin. Tamanu oil is a remarkable topical healing agent with skin healing, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties, which makes it a very desirable ingredient to enhance the look of hands and cuticles. Tamanu oil treatments works particularly well for cuticles.
  7. Pracaxi Oil: In the Amazon Jungle Pracaxi oil is commonly referred to as "sutura da mata" , which literally means jungle suture; and this is due to its high capacity of speeding the healing process of the skin tissue after cuts and scratches. Pracaxi seed oil  helps to hydrate due to it's very high behenic acid content and promote cellular renewal. One of the best oils to revitalize dull, dry, and leathery skin and helps to make it look radiant and younger and for these reasons it is often added in high end under the eye creams. Pracaxi oil has been used for generations for treatment of skin spots, severe acne and acne scars, and depigmentation. This oil also works very well to beautify dry, scaly, and chapped hands.
  8. Hydrolyzed Collagen: Helps moisturize and supplies skin with amino acids, which will be used in collagen synthesis. Hydrolyzed collagen provides nutrition to skin, nails, and cuticles and strengthens them. They are also likely to work as signal molecules, making your skin cells synthesize new collagen just as they do when skin is damaged. Collagen hand cream /balm helps to make skin appear and feel smooth and elastic. Hydrolyzed Collagen used in this balm is of very low molecular weight and very easily and deeply penetrates the skin.
  9. Milk Lipid Extract: is derived from cow’s milk. It’s a very rich emollient,  which quickly penetrates the top layers of the skin, leaving it satiny smooth. Milk hand cream /balm is a great emollient & moisturizer for very dry, rough skin. Milk lipid extract is a good source of vitamin A; also contains vitamin E and K, and fatty acids primarily palmitic, myristic and lauric acids that are all very beneficial for our skin. Milk lipids are ideal lipids to prevent and heal dry skin and make it silky smooth. Must have in any cuticle oil, balm or cream.
  10. Rice Bran Oil: Rice Bran Carrier Oil has a high percentage of fatty acids and unsaponifiables and is one of the best sources of tocotrienols, an antioxidant much more powerful and effective than Vitamin E. Rice Bran Carrier Oil contains gamma-oryzanol, which can impede the progress of melanin pigmentation by restoring the erythema activity of the tyrosinase enzyme as it intercepts the UV rays at the skin’s surface, hindering UV ray transmission. (Please not that this is not a replacement for a sun block/spf). It is a mild oil perfect for dry / flaky, sensitive, mature and/or delicate skin , where additional moisture is required and is effective for keeping skin smooth. Japanese women are well known for using rice bran oil  to keep their skin silky smooth, spotless and beautifully ageless.
  11. Lanolin: Lanolin is the natural oil found in sheep's wool. Lanolin’s role in nature is to protect wool and skin against the ravages of climate and the environment; It helps protect the sheep from cold, wet weather by making the wool oily and water-repellent. Lanolin has also been shown to penetrate the skin and help to store water in the stratum corneum, the top most layer of skin. Lanolin Hand Cream or balm forms a protective barrier on hands and  guards skin against cold, dry, and windy conditions and can be found in the best natural hand balms and creams. Lanolin is one of the best substances for use on delicate, dry or chapped skin. It deeply moisturizes dry skin and is an ideal ingredient in hands, nails, and cuticle treatment products.
  12. Olive Oil Unsaponifiables: Olive Oil Unsaponifiables are derived from the unsaponifiable oil fractions of olives via a natural process. The oil is rich in both squalane and squalene, both of which help to attain pretty and flawless skin. The high percentage of phytosterols and glycolipids help replenish those lipids lost from the aged skin. Olive Oil Unsaponifiable may also help with moisture retention in the skin. A good cuticle oil or cream should always have this wonderful ingredient!
  13. Vegetable Glycerin: It is a natural source ingredient with invaluable emollient like properties; it assists the outer epidermis to retain moisture and thus softens and soothes the skin. Glycerin is a great moisturizer for dry skin. In fact glycerin hand creams are very sought after by people suffering from dry and cracked hands. My hand balm contains glycerin along with many other beneficial ingredients.
  14. Grape Seed Extract: Grape seed extract is a great source of proanthocyanidins. Proanthocyanidins are flavonoids, which slow down the activity of the enzymes that break down elastin (known as elastase) , collagen (known as collagenase), and hyaluronic acid (known as hyaluronidase). They are also anti-inflammatory, antihistaminic, antiallergenic, and act as major free radical scavengers. Proanthocyanidins help to heal injuries, reduce swelling and edema, promote tissue elasticity, restore collagen, and improve peripheral circulation. They prevent bruising and strengthen weak blood vessels. No anti aging, anti wrinkle hand cream or balm should be without this ingredient. A study: Topical grape seed proanthocyandin extract reduces sunburn cells and mutant p53 positive epidermal cell formation, and prevents depletion of Langerhans cells in an acute sunburn model : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22103910
  15. Black Currant Extract: is rich in anthocyanins and inhibit the enzymes that break down collagen (collagenase), hyaluronic acid (hyaluronidase), and elastin (elastase). Like grape seed extract, also exhibits free radical scavanging properties, restores collagen, and helps promote tissue elasticity and thus a must have in any anti aging cream or balm for younger looking, pretty hands.
  16. Co Enzyme Q10: This is a very important molecule in respiration. Its topical application restores mitochondrial activity, increasing energy production as ATP, and reduces power needed to make new collagen. Helps to promote radiant, spotless, and younger looking skin. Co enzyme Q10 is a natural alternative to Idebenone, the primary ingredient in Prevage and Prevage MD by Elizabeth Arden. The rationale behind its use is that mitochondrial function can be limited by insufficient CoQ10, and it’s topical application  will help older mitochondria work better. It also functions as a very good antioxidant. CoQ10 is a perfect ingredient in any anti aging hand cream or balm.  A study showing Co Q10's benefit for skin and another study here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10416055
  17. Alpha Lipoic Acid: is a very potent oil soluble anti oxidant and is mush needed by aging and compromised skin. Please read more about it on the Face Care page.
  18. Astaxanthin: Carotenoids in general, and especially astaxanthin, protect cells against oxidation. Please read more about it on the Face Care page.
  19. Lycopene: is another great oil soluble antioxidant but its more than that; it significantly improves roughness of the skin. More about lycopene on the Face Care page.
  20. Vitamin C ( L Ascorbic Acid ): The vitamin C we ingest through our diet and oral supplements may not reach our skin in quantities high enough to have a significant impact. Ascorbic acid (and derivatives that our body can use) protect us from free radicals like those formed during exposure of our skin to UVA and UVB radiation. Ascorbic acid is also necessary to synthesize collagen. Vitamin C is a good antioxidant as well. Skinceuticals Vitamin C serum, a best seller anti aging serum, contains L-ascorbic acid.
  21. Beta Carotene/ Pro Vitamin A: gets converted into retinol within our skin and helps to increase elastin production and its proper assembly in the skin. It also enhances epidermal proliferation and increases collagen production.
  22. Vitamin E: is a great oil soluble antioxidant and is a great addition to an anti aging hand & cuticle oil, cream / balm.
  23. Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol ): is an oil soluble vitamin, antioxidant, and anti inflammatory. It improves conditions such as dry (xerotic) skin, psoriasis, and “flakiness”; vitamin D3 is also photoprotective. (Please not that this is NOT a replacement for a sun block). A study: Assessing the Relationship between Vitamin D3 and Stratum Corneum Hydration for the Treatment of Xerotic Skin: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3475231/
  24. Vitamin B5 (Calcium Pantothenate) : is one of the B vitamins (B5), a component of coenzyme A, and is required in synthesis of fatty acids and sphingolipids. These components are vitally important for stratum corneum lipid bilayers and cell membrane integrity. Vitamin B5 promotes healing, helps to moisturize skin, and thus is a miraculous vitamin for dry and cracked hands and cuticles and a must have ingredient to be included in any hand cream or balm touted to be the best. Skinceuticals hydrating b5 gel contains Vitamin B5 as one of it's primary ingredients.
  25. Mica: reflects light and instantly improves the appearance of dull hands and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Combination of these very beneficial ingredients makes this balm a perfect solution for not only dry and cracked hands and cuticles but also as an anti aging regimen for your hands. Easily penetrates the top layers of skin, deeply moisturizes, and rejuvenates skin, nails, and cuticles by providing appropriate nutrition; result is young looking, pretty hands!
